3rd & 4th Grade

Youth Group

Youth group is an enticing way for children to make or deepen friendships, have fun, do a mitzvah and have a great experience with other kids their own age! Youth Group activities vary from being at NSCI to taking a bus for an adventure. Andrea Dalinka, our super fantastic Youth Group advisor, can be reached at adal[email protected].

Jewish Studies:  [email protected]

Sunday 9:00 am - 11:00 am
What better way to make friends, hang out with teenage role models and experience the joy of Jewish learning? Every Sunday is [email protected], a nationally recognized program, which takes the best elements of camp and applies them to our setting. Campers spend time in their units around the “campfire” hearing stories from Torah, working with specialists and learning through a wide range of small and large group activities.

The content is a two-year cycle that connects campers’ stories to those of the Bible and the Jewish people. Learn the pshat, (simple, straightforward storyline) and drash, (interpreting the text by asking and answering big questions.) This year the focus is on the stories in Genesis and the origins of the world and the Jewish people.

Prayer Based Hebrew

Tuesdays or Wednesdays, 4:15 pm - 6:15 pm
Students learn the Hebrew alphabet, basic reading, and blessings.  They participate in a combination of class time and Chugim: electives related to holidays, prayers, and Israel through hands-on learning such as music, visual arts, games, sports, and technology.

Hebrew Plus – Conversational Hebrew

Tuesdays, 4:15 pm - 6:15 pm for 2nd - 4th grades
Can you imagine your child following commands in Hebrew to put a book on their head, spin toward the door? Want your child to learn Hebrew as a spoken language? We emphasize learning modern Hebrew as well as the Hebrew alphabet and Hebrew prayers. Students learn through active learning, using their bodies and all their senses. Students will be expected to reasonably reinforce or supplement their Hebrew studies outside of the classroom.

4th Grade Parent / Child Prayer Based Hebrew continues

Sundays, 11:00 am - 12:00 pm
This option is a continuation of last year’s Parent/Child class.  Students attend with a parent every Sunday for one hour.  New families are welcome.

Individual Instruction

Tuesdays or Wednesdays, 4:15 pm - 6:15 pm
Do you learn best in a structured, small group or one-on-one environment? Are you too easily distracted? Lynn Friend and her cadre of professional educators and machoniks are here to assist every child to be successful learning Hebrew and become a bar/bat mitzvah. Each child in the Individualized Instruction program works on their own Hebrew or Jewish studies learning plan that includes bookwork, computer games, and board/card games.

If you feel this class is appropriate for your child, please contact Dr. Roberta Goodman, Education Director, robertag@nsci.org.  Students are only assigned to this class with the approval of the parent(s), Education Director and the teachers.
