5th & 6th Grade Hebrew Choices
Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday
Are you competitive? Like playing games? Working in teams? Teacher Betty Hainsfurther, eagerly awaits students who want to learn reading and/or chanting Hebrew prayers through games, technology and good old drill. Students can explore the meaning of the prayers through asking big life-relevent questions. This class is a two-year cycle covering the prayers used in our midweek and Shabbat services.
Conversational & Prayer Hebrew
Sundays, 9:00 am and Tuesday
Jump, run, stop! Put a ball on your head! Turn! Do you like moving around, doing active, multi-sensory, fanciful things while learning Hebrew? Want to learn both how to speak modern Hebrew and read prayers? This class offers both disciplines whereas our other Hebrew classes focus primarily on teaching prayers.
Sundays, 11:00 am and Tuesday
Do you play a musical instrument or two? Do you like singing in a choir or the shower? Cantor Goldstein, Alan Goodis, Machoniks, and Selah members invite 5th and 6th graders to bring their voices, guitar/ukelele, drums, wind, brass or string instruments (piano provided) for a Jewish jam session. Students will increase their musical skills while obtaining insights into prayers and mastering their tunes and words. This class helps lead midweek services for 5th-7th grades.
Prayers through the Visual Arts
Sundays, 10:00 am and Tuesday
Want to work with pastels, chalk, ink, clay, silk and dozens of other materials? Zoya Nudelman invites you to the Art Studio to learn new techniques, gain exposure to Jewish artists as you play with different media exploring and interpreting prayers, and enhance your prayer reading skills.
Sundays, 9:00 am
Calling all athletes! Join Cantor Goldstein and Rabbi Daniels for an hour of Hebrew drills and rigorous physical training! Each class session includes an intense core workout paired with a deep dive into the Hebrew prayers that comprise a traditional Shabbat service. All participants must also play an organized team sport outside NSCI to enroll. Space is limited for this new class. A lottery will be held for those who register by July 6, 2016.
Individualized Hebrew Instruction
Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday
Do you learn best in a structured, small group or one-on-one environment? Are you too easily distracted? Lynn Friend and her cadre of professional educators and machoniks are here to assist every child to be successful learning Hebrew and become a bar/bat mitzvah. Each child in the Individualized Instruction program works on their own Hebrew or Jewish studies learning plan that includes bookwork, computer games, and board/card games.
If you feel this class is appropriate for your child, please contact Dr. Roberta Goodman, Education Director, email@example.com. Students are only assigned to this class with the approval of the parent(s), Education Director and the teachers.
