HOW TO GET INVOLVED

Register below to sponsor Jordan Elementary School's 500 Kindergarten-6th Graders. Then purchase a backpack and bring it to NSCI on Sunday, May 4 between 10:00 AM-12:30 PM, and fill it with specific supplies for each grade level. The registration fee is $25 which will help offset the cost of the pre-purchased school supplies. To make a donation that will go directly toward the purchase of additional supplies, click HERE. Under "Type" scroll down to the Operation Backpack Fund. We are also collecting new and gently used backpacks Please bring them to the collection bin labeled “Operation Backpack” in the hallway by the Hebrew school office between now and May 4th.

 

PURPOSE

To provide the more than 500 students at Jordan Elementary School in Chicago with all of the school supplies they'll need for a successful school year!

 

WHO WE SERVE

With your participation, we serve the students, teachers, and families of the Jordan Community School located in Rogers Park, one of Chicago's most diverse neighborhoods where there are approximately 40 different languages spoken. Jordan Community School is a K–8 school that prepares their graduates for high school, college, and careers through a balanced and integrated literary approach, diverse learning experiences, and character education. 
 
Rogers Park is also a significantly under-resourced community—through Operation Backpack, we can play a meaningful role in ensuring that Jordan Community School students have the school supplies necessary for an equitable educational experience this upcoming school year. We are grateful for our decades-long partnership with the Jordan Community School and look forward to another great year of Operation Backpack at NSCI. 

 

WHAT WE DO

We work with the Jordan School's teachers to develop the list of supplies for each classroom. With your help, we will purchase the supplies to provide a filled backpack for every student.  EVERY DOLLAR RECEIVED BENEFITS THE CHILDREN. On delivery day, our Youth Group helps to deliver the supplies to school where they will meet the teachers and staff, and hear about the students we are supporting.
